چکیده

the head bones and relevant muscles are important elements composing the feeding and respiration apparatus and can be considered as highly important structures for giving rise to evolutionary specializations. the eels of the anguilloidei is a diverse group and structural diversity in their cranial musculoskeletal system is thus to be expected. ariosoma gilberti is a member of bathymyrinae (congridae) with a hydraulic based prey transport and closely related to muraenid family with mechanical prey transport system. since there is no information about the cephalic morphology of a. gilbert , hence this study was conducted to provide detailed description of its cranial osteology and myology. the immobile maxillary with large pointed teeth, an anterior moderate mouth gape, large jaw closing muscles and large lateral and ventral bony elements, providing more room for the orobranchial cavity of a. gilberti suggesting the presence of a hydraulic and suction-based mechanism.

Comparative morphology of cephalic exocrine glands among castes of the black ant Lasius niger.

The glandular system is crucially involved in main aspects of ant social life. The function of glands has been primarily studied in the workers (the non-reproductive individuals in a colony). In contrast, little information is available on queens (the reproductive females in a colony) or males in spite of the obvious functional differences between these castes. Here we report a comparison of th...

Cephalic salivary glands of two species of advanced eusocial bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae): morphology and secretion

Some adult eusocial bees have a pair of cephalic salivary glands (CSG) in addition to the thoracic labial or salivary gland pairs. This paper deals with variations in morphological features and secretion production of the CSG of females and males of Apis mellifera Linnaeus, 1758 and Scaptotrigona postica Latreille, 1807. The following life stages were studied: newly emerged, nurse, and forager ...

Histological analysis revealed the mass to be a high-grade leiomyosarcoma arising within the cephalic vein. The tumour was controlled locally and distally until the patient died 10 months later, from an unrelated illn...

Electrophysiological investigations of cephalic tetanus.

Electrophysiological studies of a patient with cephalic tetanus, manifested by trismus and unilateral facial palsy, revealed that the trismus resulted from strictly unilateral masseter spasm which stopped during sleep, a normal silent period in the involved masseter muscles, initially prolonged distal latency of the paretic orbicularis muscles, and abnormal continuous muscle activity in the par...
